We really do want you to collaborate with us.

It's funny: people who pontificate on the newspaper industry are just so damn proprietary with their thoughts (mostly because they are convinced that they have THE answer to the problem) that some people have emailed me asking if they can change stuff in this document. I've responded: hell yes! We want a collaborative document. Tally ho. 5  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

I didn't actually ask permission. Just told you I added to the site :) There's a chance I'll be in SF next week. Coffee if I am? I'll have some time so would be up for meeting others too.

I'm working on the Neighborlogs service for neighborhood bloggers and run my own local news and info site in seattle http://capitolhillseattle.com

The wiki format takes some getting used to. If somebody adds something the community doesn't like, simply edit it back out or revert it. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Yeah, that's true. We have some great wiki people on here now, though, like Stephen Walling. The pros can help lead the way. Do you find this valuable?

Thanks for this exciting opportunity. Do connect with Michael Stoll and the Public Press if you can!

I was one of nine finalists in the WeMedia "pitch it" contest, promoting my plan for LOCAL.NEWSDESK.ORG, which is in essence an idea for creating a self-propagating network of small, efficient, public-interest online journalism bureaus. The general idea is referenced here:

http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=131&aid=159170

And you can read the details of the proposal here:

http://www.changemakers.net/en-us/node/17422

Although we did not take the prize (a volunteer-through-your-cellphone app did so), it was an extremely fruitful event, and there are lots of intriguing opportunities for this project which I am just beginning to strategize around.

If you would be interested in working collaboratively, or co-brandedly (forgive me for that awkward concatenation!), let's talk! I'm not sure whether it should be sanfrancisco.newsdesk.org or bayarea.newsdesk.org ... or even noevalley.newsdesk.org, mission.newsdesk.org ... but I think the geographic question creates lots of opportunity.

* I feel strongly that co-equal, peer-relationships between partners and projects is the way to go. Today's nonprofit news structure must be massively collaborative rather than immediately competitive. Likeminded public-interest news projects have more to gain from working together as competition to the existing failing media structure.

* On the nonprofit tip, I would be glad to talk about that whole world. I wound up with a weirdo second career in nonprofit social entrepreneurship after jumping ship at SFGate in 2001 and starting Independent Arts & Media. That project, which is conceived of as a "next step" for public media, is now rockin' all on its own, I just get to hang out on the board of directors and watch. It's amazing!

Wow, thanks for the brainfood! I'll add this to the Inspirational Links.

(Oh, and we have connected with Michael of Public Press. And Eve from The S.F. Appeal, too.)

The post ran out of space before I was able to finish. The short of it is ... regardless of the BRANDING, I would be glad to work with and support an effort that is simpatico to where Newsdesk is coming from. There are incredible media-partnership opportunities here, and lots of room to let them grow in various mutually supportive ways.

Not sure about the best place to post this, but just heard about a new online SF newspaper called 'SFAppeal'. Some coverage on Laughing Squid:
